Manipur Police thwarts blast in Imphal


Pothashang News Service: Imphal, February 17, 2020: Manipur Police has prevented IED blasts in Imphal with the recovery of explosive materials from an oil station and arrest of three persons including a woman.

Three persons including a woman have been arrested in connection with the recovery of explosive device materials.

They were Samukcham Mobi singh, 53,  son of late S. lboyaima singh of Khagempalli Panthak Leirak Macha, Huidrom(N) Lairenlakpam(0) lbemcha Devi, 38, wife of late I. Indrakumar singh of Mongjam Mayai Leikai, presently residing at Langol Warok Leikai and  Lourembam Bhumeshwor Singh, 48, son of  late L. Ningthemjao of Khurai Thangjam Leikai.

Superintendent of police, Imphal West, K. Meghachandra Singh told reporters here on Monday that based on specific information about the movement of cadres of the outlawed RPF/PLA along National Highway 103, a mobile check post was placed at Singjamei parking on Monday afternoon. While checking suspected vehicles on the highway, one white van bearing registration number MNOIS 9757 coming from Kakwa side in a high speed was stopped. Mobi and lbemcha who were on it were detained for verification, he added.

On checking the vehicle eight 1.5 volt batteries connected in series which are usually used in IEDs were found from one black plastic polythene inside the van, the officer said.

Mobi and lbemcha disclosed that the batteries were given to them by one Robertson of PLA when they visited Tamu, Myanmar on Monday. They further disclosed that the batteries were to he handed over to Bhumeshor at NRL Telepati City 1 Oil Station, he added.

Immediately police teams rushed to the oil station and arrested Bhumeshwor. From his instance the explosive device materials were recovered from the store room of the NRL oil station.

Police recovered one claymore IED, one remote control, one transistor, two numbers of 9 volt battery, 8 numbers of 1.5 volt batteries connecting in series, one detonator, one 9mm ammunition amd one mobile handset.

On examination Bhumeshwor disclosed that the IED were supposed to be planted at Telepati areas in near future. Further, they disclosed that they were also involved in other activities of PLA in the past, the officer said.

lbemcha is a street vendor in Imphal city. The arrested persons and recovered items will be handed over to Singjamei police station for investigation, he added.
