Crackers respond Prime Minister’s call against Coronavirus in Imphal

Pothashang News Service: Imphal, April 5, 2020: Crackers blasts filled the air in Imphal while responding to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s appeal to show collective solidarity in the nation in its fight against Coronavirus by putting off lights and lit up candles and diyas.

As the clock ticks nine in the evening people start firing crackers and continued for minutes beyond 9-minutes period.

Modi had appealed to the people to turn off lights for nine minutes at 9 pm to show collective resolve to defeat the virus.

People here were seen lit up candles at home-yard and home balconies. In the midst young and old shouted “Go Corona Go” while crackers thrilled the air.

Police were on Imphal streets, controlling the public, using microphones and making announcement to follow only the instructions of the Prime Minister and to avoid crackers.

Two persons were tested positive in the state. One of them, a 23 years old girl, was tested negative of Covid-19 on Saturday. She has to get another test on Monday.
