6 lakh fines collected for lockdown violations

Pothashang News Service: Imphal, April 15, 2020: Manipur police had collected Rs. 6,00,440/- as fines from lockdown violators during March 25 to April 13. According to report from Manipur police, 15 persons were booked under Disaster Management Act 2005 (COVID-19 pandemic) and one person was arrested for uploading communally inciting message on social media.

At least 9055 persons were detained defying curfew/lockdown and 5479 vehicles were detained and fined.

Bishnupur, Thoubal and Imphal west districts top the chart in fine collections with total collected fines of Rs. 1,44,240, Rs. 1,42,700 and Rs. 1,15,400 respectively.

In a press statement, ADGP (L/O), L. Kailun appealed public to follow lockdown guidelines and stay at home. He further appealed to maintain social distancing while coming out for purchase of medicines and grocery items.

He said police will continue to enforce lockdown/curfew strictly in coming days.
