889 Covid-19 lockdown violators detained

Pothashang News Service: Imphal, April 26, 2020: Manipur Police on Sunday detained 889 Covid-19 lockdown and curfew violators along with 731 vehicles and collected Rs 91, 200 as fines.

The state police department has been detaining number of curfew violators since imposition of the lockdown in the state.

Additional director general of police (L/O), L. Kailun, in a press release said the violators were detained under National Disaster Management Act and the fine was imposed by producing them in front of concerned district magistrates.

Of them 279 violators were detained in Bishnupur district and 265 in Thoubal district. Among the 16 districts four districts, Tengnoupal, Churachandpur, Kamjong and Pherzawl do not have record for detention of curfew violators, it added.

The department has been cautioning the public to take legal action against violation of the lockdown.
