Pothashang News Service: Imphal, April 26, 2020: Manipur Democratic Alliance of Manipur (MDA) has demanded to open three full operational police station and two police outposts at the Indo-Myanmar border area of Tengnoupal district.
Due to shortage of state police personnel in Tengnoupal cases of illegal migrant influx and drugs seizure have been increased in the district, MDA state general secretary Lien Gangte said briefing the reporters on the scenario of border area in Kwatha Khunou, Tengnoupal district during press conference held at its party head office located at Babupara, Imphal on Sunday.
He said international boundary of India (Manipur) and Myanmar is 398 kilometres, however 44 kilometres covers Tengnoupal district. For the district, most of the border areas are forest region and illegal migrants and drug peddlers take the advantage of being forest area, he added.
To monitor the situation along the border area a team of MDA led by its convener, M. Tombi inspected Kwatha Khunou, a hamlet located along the Indo-Myanmar border in Tengnoupal district on Saturday.
Lein said after monitoring the border areas of the said district MDA demands to open three fully function police station at Kwatha Khunou near border pillar 81, Yangoupokpi near border pillar 73 and Lamlongei near. Whereas two police outpost need to be open at Tuiningphai near border pillar number 87 and at Bongbal Khullen near border pillar number 79, he added.
He said if the three police station and the two police out posts are opened at the area then activities on illegal migrant influx and drug could be prevented.
The proposal will be made to Manipur chief minister, union home minister and external affairs minister to solve the border dispute starting from international border pillar number 73 to 82, he added.
Convener of MDA, Tombi said Assam Rifles personnel deputed at Khudengthabi post can detect gold biscuits carried inside human body but despite of sealing the international border 45,000 packets of Myanmar made ‘Win’ cigarettes were seized from Pallel.
He said the disputed border need to be monitored by collaborating state police personnel and Assam Rifles to prevent the activities on illegal migrant influx and drug trade.
Essential relief materials were also donated at the some villages of the area, he added.
