Drug traffickers apprehended


Imphal: Amid the Covid-19 lockdown imposed in the state, Sunusiphai Youth Welfare Association (SYWA) has apprehended a drug smuggler along with contraband drugs from Sunusiphai Maning Ching under Bishnupur district on Sunday evening.

The apprehended person has been identified as Lungchungam Kuki, 41, from Langchingmanbi village,  Churuchandpur.

Publicity Secretary SYWA H. Pitar informed that while SYWA has been carrying out various drives against use and sales of contraband drugs as part of the Covid-19 lockdown, they received information of suspicious activities and movement of some suspicious persons at Sunusiphai Maning Ching.

During checking of some suspicious persons SYWA apprehended Lungchungam Kuki along with contraband SP tablets, WY Tablets, opium and syringes from his possession, Pitar said.

The apprehended person was produced before the public at Sunusiphai Awang Community Hall and handed over to Moirang Police station, he added.

A case has at been registered at Moirang Police Station, Pitar informed.

Pitar further informed that SYWA will continue to conduct drives against use and sales of contraband drugs.
