Film on wetlands released


Imphal:  Manipur chief minister N. Biren Singh on Friday released a 20-minute documentary film on “Wetlands of Manipur” produced by forest department, Manipur under Nature Learning Centre, National Mission on Himalayan Studies, ministry of environment, forests and climate change.

The film focusses on the major wetlands of Manipur both in hills and valley region, namely, Loktak, Zaimeng, Zeilad, Pumlen, Ikop, Waithou, Lamjao, Karung Pat, Yaral Pat, etc.

It also highlighted the present conditions of the wetland, role played by the wetlands in maintaining the ecosystem equilibrium and supporting livelihood, bio-diversity and threats being faced by the wetlands. The film also
emphasized the socio-cultural relationship of wetlands with the Manipuri society.
