50 buses arranged to bring back stranded people

Imphal: Transporters and Drivers’ Council (TDC) has arranged 50 buses to bring back stranded Manipuris in Chennai after they reach Jiribam.
The buses will depart on Monday morning from Imphal.
The council expressed its gratitude towards chief minister for including transporters among frontline warriors.
President of TDC H. Ranjit on Saturday told reporters here that 50 buses will depart for first phase under the approval of chief minister and the transport fare from Jiribam to Imphal will be taken at the government rate.
Saying that since the starting of lockdown many transporters have been ferrying various essential items for the people during lockdown, he appealed the drivers and its assistant to follow the guidelines issued by the government to avoid spread of Covid-19.
TDC will provide water bottle and snacks through the drivers and its assistant to the people who are coming from Chennai towards Manipur when they reach Jiribam, he added.
To manage the transport of stranded people a team of 20 people from TDC will look after the journey from Jiribam to Imphal. The team will be divided into two groups; 10 volunteers will be stationed at Jiribam and the remaining 10 will be at Imphal, he said.
Ranjit urged the state government to convert the connecting bridges of Makru, Irang and Barak into reinforced cement concrete bridges.
