Minister Letpao inspects quarantine centres at Chandel

Imphal (DIPR): WR and YAS Minister Letpao Haokip today toured various places of Chandel district to inspect the quarantine centres opened within the district for tackling COVID-19 pandemic. With the increasing return of stranded persons from various parts of the country, the minister, who is also the local MLA of 41-Chandel AC, instructed officials concerned to be ready to go to any extent to provide security and quarantine facilities to them.

A review meeting to take stock of the various arrangements and steps taken up in the district was also attended by the minister at the Chandel Mini Secretariat as a part of the tour program.

Letpao first visited the quarantine centre at JNV Campus, Liwa Sarei Khullen, Chandel where he met the officials and staff being manned at this centre. A total of 54 persons, who had been recently evacuated from Guwahati, are being currently quarantined at this centre. There, he appreciated the efforts of the frontline staff at service for their selfless service and assured fulfilment of any shortages.

After that, the minister chaired the review meeting at Chandel Mini Secretariat. DC, SP, CMO, SDOs and other DLOs attended the meeting and apprised the minister, who is a member of the State Consultative Committee, regarding the current scenario of the pandemic and the lockdown to the minister. They also updated the minister about the hindrances and shortages faced by them while carrying out their duties. Letpao assured swift action to all those problems, and also handed over gloves, sanitizers and masks to the district administration.

Thereafter, the minister along with the DC and SDOs inspected the quarantine centre being set up at the Chakpikarong Higher Secondary School, where those belonging to Chandel returning from outside by train will be quarantined. Apart from the existing toilets, an additional ten low-cost toilets have been constructed under the minister’s initiative at this centre for quarantine purposes.

Later, Letpao and his team also visited St Joseph Higher Secondary School at Sugnu Hill Area and the Y Thingkangphai Government High School at Serou. These sites will also be developed into quarantine centres so as to accomodate the hundreds of persons of Chandel who will be arriving to their home district gradually.

Speaking to media persons after the tour, the minister expressed satisfaction that the various measures taken up in the district under his supervision is going excellently and relatively better than most hill districts. He also appreciated the district administration and the Covid Response Force of the district for their relentless service in combating this global pandemic. Further, he advised them to collectively work together in such critical times without finding faults for each other.

Giving his appeal to the general public, Letpao urged all to adhere to the medical protocols laid down by the government and those violating by running prematurely from quarantine period are punishable even to the extent of lodging FIRs against them. He also announced that Chandel district is ready to open more quarantine centres at Sajik Tampak area, Monpi area and ADC blocks, if the need arises.
