Imphal customs seizes huge drugs during COVID-19 crisis


Imphal: Officers of Anti-Smuggling Unit, Customs Division, Imphal, seized huge quantity of World is Yours  (WY) tablets, Brown Sugar and Heroin during Covid-19 lockdown.

Two persons have been arrested in connecting with the drug trade. They were identified as Md. Bahaoddin, 31, son of Alhaj Md. resident of Sora Karanchi Mayai Leikai Irengband, Kakching, Thoubal, and  Laitonjam Joykumar Singh, 23,  son of L. Khamba Singh, resident of Irengband Hawairou Mamang Leikai, Irengband, Thoubal.

Bahaoddin, truck driver, was detected with 310 gm of Heroine and 66,000 WY tablets concealed inside the spare tyre of the 12 wheeled truck bearing registration number NLO1K-8678 at Awang Sekmai near Petrol Pump along Imphal – Dimapur Road on Wednesday.

The total value of the seized contraband drugs along with the truck is collectively found to be Rs 7,32,80,000.

The driver has been arrested and a case has been registered under the relevant provisions of NDPS Act, 1985.

Joykumar was arrested on May 8 by this unit in possession of 1 kg of brown sugar worth approximately Rs 1 crore. A case had also been booked and investigation is underway, the release said.
