Imphal: State Platform of Disabled Peoples Organisation’s Manipur (SPDPO) has alleged elected people of neglecting people with disabilities (PWDs) during Covid-19 lockdown.
The allegation was made during distribution of relief materials to PWDs of Sora, Kakching district who are suffering due to lockdown.
Disabled Development Association Manipur (DDAM) on Wednesday donated relief materials to some PWDs
The donation was made under the aegis of State Platform of Disabled Peoples Organisation’s Manipur (SPDPO).
President of SPDPO, Md Yunus Khan said while distributing relief materials at Sora many PWDs encountered problems as they are not aware of the benefits provided by the ministry concerned.
Yunus alleged that the lack of awareness towards PWDs in the village is due to irresponsibility of the elected persons, elected member, pradhan and councilors of the area.
People representatives of the area give priority only to get their vote at the time of election but usually neglected the PWDs at the crucial hours, he added.
Some of the PWDs do not own disability certificate due to lack of awareness. To promote the PWDs government has been implementing various welfare schemes only for PWDs. In the said village family members and PWD do not have awareness, how to get benefit with disability certificate, he added.
Some parents and guardians expressed that no development have been brought for PWDs though ‘Go To Village’ was conducted recently, he said.
