Assam Rifles seizes narcotic items amid Covid-19 crisis

Imphal: Tegnoupal Battalion of HQ Pallel sector under the aegis of IGAR (S) seizes 66 packets (767 gms) of suspected Narcotic items, worth crores of Rupees as per International market, smuggled from Myanmar.

During the regular check at mobile vehicle checkpost Tegnoupal, the  team stopped an Alto car bearing veh registration no WB 02 T 7584(Black)travelling from Moreh to Imphal. On checking the vehicle 66 packets of suspected narcotic items were found under the bonnet of the car, Assam Rifles said in a press release on Friday.

On further enquiry the Narcotic item was being transported from Moreh to Imphal. The car was driven by an individual named Md Anish Khan, 26 son of Md Abdul Rashid resident of Thoubal and the passenger in the vehicle was identified as  Md Tomba, 27, son of  Kayamudin and Azizoor son of Rahmad both resident of Thoubal. The vehicle had valid essential vehicle pass, it added.

The recovered narcotic items were handed over to representatives from police station, Tengnoupal. Assam Rifles will continue to check such nefarious activities of illicit drug smuggling in Manipur to protect the youth from the menace of drug addiction, it said.
