Imphal, June 3: With the washing away of railway track between Lamding and Badarpur due to incessant rain in Assam, Manipur government has arranged 97 buses to bring back Manipur returnees from Guwahati.
The state government is making all out efforts to bring back all stranded people from various states. So far the Government has organised 22 trains. Unfortunately due to incessant rains in Assam, the railway track between Lamding and Badarpur is washed away and it is likely to take 10 days for repair, chief secretary Suresh Babu said in press release on Wednesday.
The train from Chennai with 1028 passengers, which was to reach Jiribam on June 2 was terminated at Gauhati and the state government has hired 44 buses from Assam and brought them to Jiribam on Tuesday night and they are now transported from Jiribam to Imphal by transport department, he added.
Another train which started from Mumbai with 1639 passengers which has to reach Jiribam on June 4 will be terminated at Gauhati.
The state government has hired 30 buses from Assam and has sent another 23 buses from Imphal to Gauhati on Wednesday to bring those passengers.
State government has made elaborate arrangements inspite of many constraints. Further arrangement for trains will be considered only after the railway track is repaired, Babu said.
So far state government has brought 22,419 stranded people by train. This includes 3 trains from Chennai, 3 trains from Hyderabad, 2 trains from Delhi, 2 trains from Mumbai, 2 trains from Gujarat, one train each from Punjab/Chandigarh/J&K, Goa/MP, Vijayawada, Uttarakhand/ Uttar Pradesh, Pune, Kerala, Jaipur and Haryana.
The state government appreciates the commitment shown by the Jiribam district administration, police, transport, health and other departments and also the volunteers for handling such gigantic task with limited resources at Jiribam.
The testing capacity for Covid-19 in the state has been increased to 1400 samples per day. So far both the laboratories at JNIMS and RIMS have tested 11,653 samples. Out of these 108 cases are tested positive and treated at these hospitals. The doctors have successfully treated and discharged 38 patients so far. On Tuesday 12 patients who were treated at RIMS tested negative and they were discharged. On Wednesday another 12 patients who are under treatment at JNIMS are tested negative and discharged. The state government appreciates the doctors, nurses and all others associated with treatment of the patients for their efforts.
The state government is so far running 17 unstitutional quarantine centres and 770 Community quarantine centres. State government appreciates the efforts made by all the public representatives, government employees and local volunteers who are contributing immensely in running these centres. The state government also appreciates the commitment shown by the Transport Council and other Transport Associations, their drivers and handymen in transporting such large number of people, the chief secretary said.
