Imphal: Manipur Police has arrested four kidnappers including two women on Thursday at Yairipok Lamkhai and seized one pistole along with ammunition.
The kidnappers have been identified as Kangabam Jadumani Singh, 50, resident of Charangpat Mamang Leikai, Ninghtoujam Romajit Singh, 35, of Bengi Makha Leikai, Thiyam Joyshree Devi, 45, of Heirangoithong bazar, Imphal West and Nahakpam Meme Devi, 49, of Charangpat Mamang Leikai.
Thoubal superintendent of police, S. Ibomcha Singh in a statement released on Thursday said that on Wednesday at around 4.30 pm received an report that one Birendra Saha, 40, son of Khilawan Saha of Bihar presently stauing at Thangal Bazar near Kasturi bridge and one Sanjoy patel, 40, son of Arjun Choudhury of Bihar presently staying at Sani Mandir, Thangal bazar were kidnapped by some unknown miscreant on Tuesday.
The miscreants demanded a ransom of Rs 50 lakh by using the victims mobile number 7085951662 and told the relatives to bring the ransom amount at Charangpat under Thoubal police station, it added.
Receiving the information a team of Thoubal district police along with women police, district intelligence branch (DIB), Thoubal and cyber crime unit district head quarter led by additional superintendent of police (Ops) Sachidananda Soibam, district commando officer-in-charge launched a rescue operation.
It is said as per intelligence input the ransom amount was to be handed over at Yairipok Lamkhai, Thoubal and the kidnapper would come by a Bolero Jeep bearing registration number MN07D-2973 white in colour. As a part of the rescue operation a team of cyber crime unit, DHQ, Thoubal was deployed at Charangpat area to find the vehicle’s movement, it added.
The release said on Thursday at about 11.42 one Bolero Jeep bearing registration number MN07D-2973 white in colour was located at Charangpat Mamang Leikai and the vehicle was followed by the team and observed its movement. Later the said vehicle was found driving around Thoubal Wangmataba and returned towards Yairipok Lamkhai. Immediately the police team intercepted the vehicle at Yairipok Lamkhai.
During the search and verification Joyshree, Meme and driver of the vehicle Romajit admitted that they came to collect the ransom money for the kidnapped persons as they were instructed by Jadumani. On further interrogation they disclosed that the kidnapped persons have been kept concealed at the house of Jadumani.
It further mentioned that the police team rushed to the house of Jadumani and rescued the kidnapped person and arrested Jadumani. One 0.32 pistol was recovered along with one magazine and five live rounds from the spot along with six mobile phones.
The arrested persons along with seizures have been handed over to Thoubal police station for further necessary legal action, the release added.
