Arms smuggler arrested with arms at Indo-Myanmar border


Imphal: Manipur Police arrested an arms smuggler with arms and ammunition including six USA made Glock pistols in Tengnoupal district bordering Myanmar on Thursday.

The smuggler was apprehended under the supervision of Tengnoupal Police superintendent Th. Vikramjit Singh.

A combined team of Tengnoupal district police and commando apprehended the arms smuggler with six Glock pistols marked as Glock 21 Gen 4 USA, one pistol marked as M&P Bodyguard 380 Smith& Wesson, six extra megazine of Glock 21, one extra megazine of M&P Bodyguard, six megazine case, six cleaning rods, 12 pistol grip, six ‘H’ shaped plastic fibre, one set of ’11’ cable lock and one set of ’11’ cable lock.

The arms and ammunution were found concealed inside the front driver seat, gear box and stereo panel of a Maruti Swift Dzire bearing registration number WB 02 AF 3805 driven by one Khaijamang Touthang, 30, son of Ngamjapao Thouthang of Yangoubung village, Moreh.

The police team following an information of arms transportation remained active. At around 2 pm the police saw a car coming in a suspicious manner and stopped it Moreh police check post near Kongdong Lairembi. The arms and accessories were found while searching inside the car, the police superintendent said.

He was arrested with the arms, a mobile phone, Aadhar card, driving licence, ATM card and EPIC, and vehicle RC book.

The arrested person along with the seized articles has been handed over to Moreh Police station for necessary action and a case has been taken up.

Chief minister N. Biren Singh has congratulated Manipur Police.
