‘Huge’ quality of contraband items recovered

Imphal: Troops of Tengnoupal and Moreh  Battalion of Pallel Sect under the aegis of HQ   IGAR(S) have been at the forefront of curbing smuggling of contraband items on NH 102 and the sensitive Border town of Moreh.

On June 18, Troops of Moreh Battalion on receiving continuous inputs of illegal smuggling, in coordination with Moreh Police carried out strict deliberate checking of vehicles along Integrated Check Post and recovered huge quantity of high valued medicine in a vehicle worth crores of Rupees, Assam Rifles said in a press release on Saturday.

In Tengnoupal district, On same day at 7 pm, troops of Tengnoupal Battalion detained an individual carrying 9500 packets of smuggled ciggrettes alongwith yangchuck seeds in  19 sacks in an EECO van MN 06 L 3715 near kwatha junction. The individual was identified as K. Letkhopao Baite son of Khomsei Baite resident of Tengnoupal Bazaar, Tengnoupal district.

In another incident, on Friday at 10 am a team of Moreh Battalion nabbed one individual named Sonkhpao Vaiphei son of Khupjangam Vaiphei, resident of Vill SM Lhangjol with approximately 871 gms brown sugar worth crores along with WY tablets.

The detainees alongwith the recovered contraband items have been handed over to Moreh Police station and Preventive Customs, Moreh, the release said.
