COVID-19 cases rise to 1075

Imphal: In Manipur, 19 persons have been confirmed positive for COVID-19 while 39 have been discharged from hospitals after they were found negative of the disease on Saturday.

The 19 new cases (10 makes, 9 females) were confirmed positive from the VRDLs of RIMS (15) and JNIMS (4). They are from the districts of Churachandpur (3), Kamjong (1), Senapati (1), Thoubal (9) and Ukhrul (5). All are returnees from other states. They are being shifted to the COVID Care Facilities. All necessary medical precautionary measures like containment and contact tracing are in place, state COVID-19 common control room said.

Those 39 persons discharged were from CCC, Meitram (17), RIMS (8) and JNIMS (14) after they were found COVID-19 free on RT PCR test. The total numbers of positive, active and recovered cases are 1075, 682 and 393 respectively. The recovery rate is 36.55 percent, it added.

There was a video clip circulating in social media showing PPE etc. in a garbage dump. Health department follows strict protocols for disposal of PPE and other biomedical waste utilized by COVID Treatment Hospitals and COVID Testing Laboratories etc. Nowadays, PPEs and other protective items are utilised by many private/non-governmental facilities also. Therefore, all persons and facilities using PPE etc. are advised to ensure that protocols of Ministry of Health and Family Welfare and Central Board of Pollution Control are strictly adhered, the control room said.
