AR recovers contraband items

Imphal: Troops of Assam Rifles under the aegis of HQ IGAR(South) recovered imported cigarettes from two different incidences on Saturday.

​Based on specific input pertaining to smuggling of  contraband items in Gen Area Moltuk, the team noticed cardboard boxes of WIN Cigarettes hidden inside the vegetation. After carrying out a thorough check of the area, 16000 packets of WIN cigarettes worth Lakhs were recovered, Assam Rifles said in a press release.

​In another incident, Assam Rifles troops intercepted a veh in general area Machi, the smugglers fled on seeing Assam rifles. On thorough checking of the vehicle, 2500 packets of WIN cigarettes worth lakhs were recovered.

The recovered tems have been handed over to Chandel and Machi PS respectively.

On Friday, based on specific input received pertaining to smuggling of contraband items in general area Machi, troops of Assam Rifles under the aegis of HQ IGAR(South) intercepted three vehicles carrying smuggled goods.

A Tata truck 407 bearing registration number  MN 01 4690, a Bolero Pickup vehicle no MN 01 AG 2069 and a Burmese Bike (Liew) without registration number along with four individuals were caught.

​The individuals apprehended were D K Leithil, 45,  resident of Kampang Khullen, Kh Mothil Maring, 50, og Kampang Khullen, Kh Mephom, 33 , of Kampang Khullen and Mothil Angkhul,31, of Choktong, Lamlong Khunou.

​A total of 37000 packets of imported cigarettes and 920 packets of Godzilla coil worth in lakhs of Rupees were recovered from the vehicles without any valid documents or permit.

​The contraband items along with the vehicles and the apprehended individuals have been handed over to Machi Police station, Assam Rifles said.
