Imphal: A 77 years old man from Chandel district who was suffering from Hypertension, Type-2 Diabetes mellitus expired at CMC, Koirengei on Friday due to COVID-19.
A total of 135 persons were tested positive of the contagion. Fifty-five of them including 12 females were confirmed positive at the VRDLs of RIMS (12) and JNIMS (27), Babina Diagnostic Centre (14), DHs of Bishnupur (1) and Tamenglong (1). They were from Imphal East (31), Imphal West (9), Bishnupur (4) Kakching (2), Kangpokpi (1), Thoubal (3), Tengnoupal (2), Tamenglong (1) and Ukhrul (1) districts.
“Thirty-seven out of them do not have significant travel history,” state COVID-19 common control room said. All of them were being shifted to COVID Care Centres. Precautionary measure like containment and active ease search were in place, it added.
Eighty of the 135 new cases were security personnel. In the past 24 hours, 10 persons were discharged from COVID Care facility RIMS (1), CCCs of Meitram, Imphal West (2), TK, Ukhrul (3), Thoubal (3) and Kasom Khullen (1) after they were found COVID-19 free on RT PCR test, the control room said.
The cumulative number of positive cases was 2,756. The total numbers of active and recovered cases were 1,051 and 1,609 respectively. The cumulative number of deaths was six.
Contact tracing is the process of identification of persons who had contact history with a confirmed case and collection of further information about them. The contacts are divisible into close/high risk and low risk contacts. Close contacts are persons who have come within six feet of a positive case and remain there for more than 15 minutes. Close contacts should compulsorily undergo 14 days quarantine and testing. Low risk contacts on the other hand, may not necessarily undergo testing unless symptomatic, the control room said.
