Granddaughter of Covid-19 victim expired

Imphal: A 20 years old granddaughter of the man who died of Covid-19 on Friday at CMC hospital expired due to the contagion on Sunday.

The girl has no travel history. She was a resident of Pureiromba Leikai, Nongpok Ingkhol, Imphal East.

General secretary of Pureiromba Youth Club (PYC), Waikhom Priyokumar Singh said all the family members of the deceased was tested for Covid-19 and the girl who died on Sunday was left for testing.

He said the deceased girl has been on her wheel chair for the last 10 years due to paralysis. Due to the reason medical staffs told the family members that they will come to test for the girl this Sunday evening. Before the test was conducted the girl died at her residence, he added.

Priyokumar said the test sample was collected after death and the result was tested positive.

He said the local club authority inform the authority concerned to picked up the body but till late evening the body was lying at the residence.

He said in the locality about number of tenants are staying at rent around the locality and there is a huge risk of community transmission. The locals and neighbors of the area need to be tested for Covid-19 as there is an apprehension for transmission of corona virus, he added.

Local clubs has been taking initiatives on sanitising the area as the state authority neglected to take any necessary action, said Priyokumar.

Imphal East DC has announced Pureiomba Leikai as a containment zone in the late Sunday evening.

According to state Covid-19 common control room the deceased girl belonged to Chandel district residing at the temporary home in Imphal East expired due to co-morbid health conditions and Covid-19.

It said the cumulative number of Covid -19 related deaths was seven.

It said In the past 24 hours, 61 persons (25 males, 36 females) from general population and 14 persons from Central Armed Police Force (CAPF) were confirmed as new positive Covid-19 cases at the VRDLs of RIMS (47), JNIMS (9), and Babina Diagnostic Centre (5).

They belong to the districts of Imphal West (42), Thoubal (9), Kangpokpi (5), Senapati (3), Churachandpur (1) and Chandel (1). All (except nine from Thoubal, 1 from Senapati, 1 from Kangpokpi and 37 from Imphal West) do not have significant travel history. Five from Imphal West are under investigation. They are being shifted to the Covid Care facilities. All necessary medical precautionary measures like containment and contact tracing are in place, it added..

Thirty-eight persons were discharged from RIMS (1), JNIMS (2), CCCs of Meitram (18), Thoubal (3), Kakching (4), Moreh (2) and RD Wing (8) after they were found Covid-19 free on RT PCR test.

The cumulative number of positive cases was 2831. The numbers of active and recovered cases were 1087 and 1737 respectively.

The recovery rate declined to 61.07 percent.
