Imphal: Farmers organisations, club, women organisation and Gram Panchayat of Khoijuman of Bishnupur district has urged the chief minister of Manipur, Nongthombam Biren Singh and authorities concerned to make appropriate arrangement to ease the plight of farmers.
Global Science Club, Khoijuman, Farmers’ Association for Inhesion Reformation, Khoijuman, Khoijuman Mamang Farmers’ Organization, Khoijuman Apunba Meira Paibi and Khoijuman Kwasiphai Gram Panchayat have written to the chief minister on Wednesday drawing his attention. The joint plea said farmers of Khoijuman are suffering due to the ongoing lockdown and curfew.
Most of the Khoijuman villagers have been depending upon vegetable cultivations in one or the other way for decades growing both Kharif and Rabi crops. Daily production of various vegetables in Khoijuman Village alone runs up to an approximate quantity of 15-20 tonnes vegetables in the current season, it said.
“As the vegetable products are easily perishable and due to lack of proper preservation facilities, marginal farmers as well as engaged labourers are facing an acute complications,” it complains.
It asked the chief minister for an appropriate arrangement to bail out the farmers and villagers facing the current depressing situation. The villagers urged the state government to either buy the farmer’s produce or make an alternative arrangement to market them.
