Imphal: Several organisations have condemned the hospitals’ act that allegedly led to the demise of the pregnant woman, Kapatliu Kamei, wife of Roshan Palang, a resident of Puichi (Oktan) village, Noney District, died after running between hospitals for 16 hours.
The Thadou Youth Association demanded an administrative probe and demanded action against medical officials. It demanded that the district administration to issue notices to the hospitals and launch FIR against the hospitals.
Inpui Naga Union demanded to complete the process of the Enquiry Committee set up by the health department within the stipulated period (of one week) and bring out all those involved in the gross negligence and immediately suspend all the medical staff doctors involved in this gross denial of basic rights.
It urges the state government to expedite and check the various health infrastructures in the hills particularly in the remote districts, subdivision and villages and to make necessary arrangements for maternity care in all districts and sub-divisions with provision for ambulances in emergency cases.
It also demands to provide compensation to the family of the deceased.
It said the patient would not have faced such fate if there is a proper medical facility at the village itself.
Naga Women’s Association condemning the hospitals’ act appeals the government to take up stringent action at the earliest and also to prevent ‘such preventable death due to negligence, irresponsibility and inhumane act’ in future.
In another case, district administration, Churachandpur has set up an enquiry committee with the complaint allegedly against refusal to admit and attend an infant by the district hospital. The five-day old infant died on Thursday evening.
To ensure there is no denial of service a ‘round the clock’ toll free helpline number has been established via the State Health Agency, where in any person denied treatment by a hospital can be immediately call on 1800-103-2015, said a notification by the state health department on Friday.
It said the state government had issued order on Thursday where all public and private hospitals are duty-bound to promptly admit all patients coming to hospital, especially emerging and serious cases.
It said a mobile team team has been activated by the directorate of health services to follow up with hospitals in Imphal area during night hours ( 7 pm to 6 am)
