Health warrior faints fighting Covid-19

Imphal: A senior doctor Dr Th. Uthan at Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences, Imphal who was assigned for one week at the hospitals Covid-19 ward fainted on Friday.

Dr Uthan works in the general medicine department has been fighting the Covid-19 battle at the forefront since a girl from Imphal tested positive for the contagion for the first time in Manipur.

A video of the doctor dressed in PPE lying on the floor and helping him by a positive patient went viral on social media.

Dr Uthan was climbing a ramp towards the Covid ward in the morning when he suddenly broke down.

A positive patient was brought to the hospital early in the morning.

Wearing PPE, Dr Uthan struggled for almost two hours to save the patient, JNIMS director Prof. Th. Bhimo said.

As he got exhausted fighting for a long period wearing PPE, Dr Uthan collapsed on the ramp.

Dr Uthan was injured at his right elbow injured.

As in the viral video a Covid-19 positive man quickly came to the doctor’s aid and put him on a wheelchair.

After he became conscious he continued his duty dealing with another Covid patient although he could not work properly.

Dr Uthan has been working at JNIMS as a senior resident doctor since the hospital was set up.

Dr Uthan continued his duty till the completion of his roster period.
