Huge quantity of imported sanitizers recovered

Imphal: Troops of Assam Rifles under the aegis of HQ IGAR (South), on Sunday recovered large quantity of imported sanitizers and alcohol spray from a truck at Khudengthabi Check Post.

The truck was travelling from from Moreh to Imphal when the Assam Rifles troop stopped two trucks bearing registration number NL 01 AA 4890 and MN 01 W 1354 travelling from Moreh to Imphal.

The troops recovered 589 cartons of foreign made Sanitizers worth Rs 1.66 crore approximately along with 64 cartons of Alcohol Spray, one carton of Fish Feed and Hooks worth Rs 7.68 lakh. The cost of total items recovered was Rs 1.74 crore, the Assam Rifles said.

The trucks were driven by Laishram Inao Singh, son of L. Birachandra Singh of Chingmeirong, Imphal East and Konjengbam Ranjan Meetei of Khunou Leikai, Tengnoupal district along with Maibam Herojit Meitei of Khunou Leikai. The drivers were not in possession of any documents or bills, it said.

The superintendent of Customs department at Moreh was contacted to clarify the same who confirmed that these items had not passed through the ICP and Customs will take them over,it added.

The apprehendees along with the recovered items have been handed over to Customs department, Imphal for further investigations, the Assam Rifles said.
