Temple ‘garot’ steals money from Siva mandir of Govindajee temple complex

Imphal: Imphal East district police has arrested a ‘garot’ on the charge of stealing money from a chest box in the campus of Govindajee mandir, Palace Compound, Imphal East on Sunday.

The person has been identified as Ningthoujam Dipak Singh, 30, of Khaidem Awang Leikai, Imphal West presently staying at Govindajee temple complex.

Dipak is said to has been working as ‘garot’ in the temple for the last 10 years.

In connection with the incident a complaint was lodged by section officer of Shree Shree Govindajee Temple Board, M. Barish Sharma on Sunday. He complained that a sum of money from chest box of Mahadeva mandir located inside the campus of Govindajee temple has been stolen during the midnight of Saturday.

A case has been registered at Porompat police station under. A team of police

arrestted thele culprit on Sunday from the campus of the temple itself.

Police reported that a knife that was used by the  thief has been covered.

The police team carried Dipak and tested for Covid-19 and found negative.
