Rs 1.15 crore looted from SBI staff, guard shot dead

Imphal: Unidentified miscreants shot a security guard of SBI and fled away robbing Rs 1.15 crore that was to be loaded at the bank’s ATMs in Churachandpur, on Friday.

The guard, Arambam Ranjan Meitei, 28, was rushed at the district hospital immediately after the incident took place at about 10: 30 am. He was referred to a hospital in Imphal and succumbed to injury.

He got two bullet injuries at his waist.

Ranjan was son of Arambam Kumar Meetei of Zouveng, Khuga Tampak, Churachandpur. He was an employee of the Writer Safe Guard and entrusted to deposit money at different ATM booths in Churachandpur.

The incident took place about a few meters away from the ATM booth attached with the SBI main branch at Tiddim road. He was shot while he enters his car after he steps out from the branch office.

The police have taken up the case in connection with the incident. There was no information of arrested of the miscreants till the filing of this report.
