Assam Rifles seizes smuggled medicines

Imphal: Assam Rifles troops under command of the HQ IGAR(S) are maintaining a strict vigil along the Indo-Myanmar Border over the last six months to prevent influx of narcotics and contraband smuggling from across.

Due to relentless efforts, Assam Rifles troops have foiled numerous attempts at cross border smuggling. On Thursday at around 3 am in the vicinity of Haolenphai village near Moreh, a column of troops of Moreh Battlaion detected some suspicious movement along the border. On being challenged, the unknown miscreants fled toward Myanmar. On thorough checking of thre area, a stockpile of smuggled medicines worth approximately Rs 2.80 lakh.

​The items were seized and handed over to Customs office, Moreh for further legal action. Assam Rifles will continue its effective border guarding operations to prevent cross border smuggling, the Assam Rifles said.
