Assam Rifles unearths large contraband items

Imphal: On Tuesday, based on intelligence inputs, troops of Assam Rifles under the aegis of HQ IGAR (South) launched an operation to intercept a consignment of contraband being smuggled across the border from Myanmar.

While carrying out search operations in the area between New Songyang and P. Chehyang, around mid day, the troops located some concealed items in the undergrowth.

On closer examination, the Assam Rifles colum from Chandel Battalion unearthed contraband items worth more than Rs 3 lakhs.

The contraband consignment uncovered comprised of Myanmarese Godzilla Anti-Mosquito Coils, 700 Kgs Betel Nuts and Myanmarese Diablo beer cans. The recovered items have been handed over to MolchamĀ  Police station, the Assam Rifles said.
