Police seize 6 guns ahead of election

Imphal: Manipur Police on Thursday seized six guns during  cordon and search operation conducted in connection with the by-elections of Lilong and Wangjing Tentha Assembly Constituencies of Thoubal District which were fixed to be held on November 7.

The team led by Thoubal Police superintendent Dr S. Ibomcha Singh, ASP (law and order) Lakshya Sharma and ASP (operations) Sachidananda Soibam conducted house to house search operation at Lilong Turel Ahanbi, Darul Uloom Maning and Awang area during 4:45 am to 7:30 am.

Since the mid-term election notification of the two constituencies was issued, Ibomcha Singh, said Thoubal District Police has been conducting search operations and taking up various precautionary measures to avoid any form of unwanted incident during the election..

The senior officer appealed to those people who are having license gun that have not deposited to deposit at the earliest as DC and DM of Thoubal district has issued an order to deposit their license guns, however some license guns are found to be not yet deposited and if Thoubal District Police happens to come across such guns, the owners are punishable as par law.

Stringent actions will also be taken up against those who try or plan to create nuisances during the election, as per law, he added.

In the operation, about 60 houses were searched and about 350 residents including females were verified.

The seized guns include three Double Barrel guns, two Single Barrel guns along with live cartridges and 1 Non Prohibited Bore point 20 pistol.
