AMSU to monitor private colleges, nursing institutes against collecting huge tuition fees

Imphal: All Manipur Students Union (AMSU) has decided to start monitoring private college and nursing institutes against collection of huge tuition fees.

“AMSU received some complaints that some private colleges and nursing institutes are collecting huge admission fees and monthly fees,” general secretary, AMSU, Bipinchandra Ahanthem told reporters at DM University campus.

Some of the boarding schools have notified that students are made mandatory to return at the boarding. Those school boarding should withdraw such notificationas it could increase spread of Covid-19, AMSU warned.

The student body has accepted the state government order regarding collection of monthly fees and salaries of staffs and teachers of all private and aided schools.

A government order issued by commissioner (education-S), T. Ranjit Singh on Saturday mentioned that government has modified the past order issued on October 5.In the new government order it is mentioned that the order issued on October 5 will be effective from July instead of April as regards collection of monthly fees from private school students. It also mentioned that the payment of the salary to the teachers and staffs will remain effective from April with 50 percent of the monthly payable salary.

He said AMSU has lifted the social boycott from some of the schools namely Mem higher secondary school, Ghari; Kindergarten Montessori School, Takyel; Comet school, Changangei; TinyTot; UNNACO, Khongman; Bright foundation, Thoubal and Maria Montessori,Koirengei as these school have rectified their earlier notification on collection of monthly school fees and salary for teachers and staffs.

The social boycott will remain effective for the remaining schools, he added.

AMSU boycotted at least 16 schools till November 1.

The student leader appealed the private schools to take alternative steps or exemption of monthly fees for students of below poverty line families.
