Imphal: A gunbattle between Assam Rifles troops and suspected NSCN (I-M) cadres took place near Khoupum Police station in Tamenglong district on Wednesday.
Personnel of 29 Assam Rifles and suspected NSCN-IM cadres were engaged in the gunfight at about 5.30 am Wednesday, sources said.
The gun-battle took placed near Chingmei Kabui (Pungsanmei village) about 12 km towards South from Khoupum police station in dense forest.
The rattle took place while the AR personnel were conducting an operation in that area.
Locals of Pungsanmei village marched a peace rally from the village towards the spot takinging slogans ‘we want peace’, ‘stop gun fire’.
No causality has been reported yet and no case has been registered, says police.
