Minister Henry distributes essential items to persons with disabilities

Imphal: Minister for social welfare Henry distributed essential items to persons with disabilities on the occasion of International Day for Persons with Disabilities held at Social Welfare Complex, Takyel on Thursday.

Henry said God has gifted persons with disabilities and individuals with different learning abilities with unique capabilities and talents.

“We should recognise the capabilities and improve accessibility for persons with disabilities persons and must end all the barriers faced by them,” he said.

The minister stressed that the government under the dynamic leadership of chief minister N. Biren Singh have introduced various welfare programmes for differently abled persons such as Chief Ministergi Sotharabasingi Tengbang (CMST) etc. Such welfare scheme has given benefits to thousands of persons with disabilities, he added.

The government will launch a Skill Development Training Program for persons with disability shortly he said

Other new schemes or projects are also in the pipeline and will be launched soon after due consultation and approval from the chief minister. To have better accessibility and communication, a new website and mobile application will be launched soon. Any individual can lodge their grievances or problems or suggestions through website and mobile application, he added. No one should be compelled to go to offices to get and submission of forms for various schemes the minister said.

Social welfare director Ng. Uttam said the pending financial assistance under CMST will be transferred directly to the beneficiary accounts form today. He mentioned that various awareness camps will be organized in every district to register and identify persons with disability so as to provide UDID card and disability certificate soon.
