Former ADC Chairman Lukhosei Zou acquitted in drug case

Imphal: A Special Court (ND&PS) Manipur on Thursday convicted two accused namely Thangminlun Zou and Tung Khan Mung Zou @Mung @ Aric while acquitting former ADC Chandel chairman Lukhosei Zou and six others from a case in connection with the seizure of large amount of contraband drugs and hard cash from the residence of Lukhosei Zou.

While acquitting Lukhosei Zou and six others from the case, the court observed that the prosecution has totally failed to prove the charges leveled against Lukhosei Zou and six other accused persons. The court directed the authority to release Zhou from Manipur Central Jail, Sajiwa immediately after completion of formalities of Jail Authority.

The Court said, the prosecution has totally failed to prove that 200 nos. and 2,00,000 nos. of WY tablets were seized from the possession Mrs. Teresa Mr. Lukhosei Zou respectively. It also failed to prove that  the seizing officer seized a sum of Rs 42,00,000/- from the possession of the accused Lorence Zou and a sum of Rs. 13,13,000/- including demonetized currency worth Rs.95,000/-from the possession of the accused Mr. Lukhosei Zou as sale proceed of the illegal drugs.

Sentence hearing of the two convicted persons Mr.Thangminlung Zou and Mr. Tung Khan Mung Zou @Mung @ Aric it fixed on December 21, 2020.

Hearing of the case was held on November 26, 2020 and December 3, 2020 and verdict of the court was announced today.

It may be recalled that former ADC Chairman Lukhosei Zou was arrested by a team of NAB along with huge amount of contraband drugs worth around Rs 27 crore and 28 kg of amphetamine tablets along with a large amount of hard cash including demonetized notes on June 20, 2018 from his official residence at Lamphel, Imphal West.
