Lady officer Brinda returns gallantry medal

Imphal: Former additional superintendent of police Narcotics and Affairs of Border (NAB), Thounaojam Brinda demands for re-investigation for both trial and investigation in connection with former ADC, Chandel chairman, Lhukhosei Zou drug case.

Brinda, at Manipur Press Club, told reporters that special court NDPS, Manipur has acquitted Lhukhosei Zou and six others in the drug haul case of 2018 out of the nine accused. She said chief minister’s police medal for gallantry was awarded to her for seizing huge amount of drugs under state government’s “War on drug”. However, the investigation and prosecution have deemed unsatisfactory by the court due to the reason the six persons along with Lhukhosei Zou were acquitted of all charges.

“I feel inclined I have not conducted my duty as ‘per the wishes’ of the criminal justice delivery system of the land. So I return the police medal for gallantry as I consider myself deserving of the honour bestowed upon,” Brinda said.

She said the award was returned to state home department so that it may be given to amore deserving and loyal police officer.

Chief minister N. Biren Sing, during laying of foundation stone of water amusement park at Awang Potshangbam Khunou said the judgment judiciary is for judiciary. If any person is unsatisfied with the judgment then can move to higher court but the government’s ‘war on drug’ is progressing.

The sentence hearing of the two accused in the case, Thangminlun Zou and Tung Khan Mung Zou who have been convicted under NDPS Act, 1985 has fixed on December 21.
