1184 acres of poppy cultivation destroyed in 1 month

Imphal: Manipur Police has destroyed poppy cultivation in 1184 acres of land since November 20 as a part of Manipur government’s War on Drugs.

A Joint Team of Imphal East (IE) district police and Narcotics and Affairs of Border (NAB) conducted a poppy destruction drive at Changshang village in Kangpokpi district under the supervision of SP/IE and SP NAB.

Poppy plantations covering about 55 acres were destroyed during the drive. SP/IE Jogeshchandra Haobijam, IPS and SP NAB W. Basu Singh, MPS, and around 400 personnel from IE district police, NAB, Manipur Armed Police, including GOs and women personnel of Manipur Police were involved in the operation.

On the same day another combined team of NAB, Imphal East district police, 1st MR Bn, horticulture department, homeguards, NCB, revenue officials and forest department led by SP/NAB Watham Basu MPS and SP/IE H. Jogeshchandra destroyed about 55 acres of illicit poppy cultivation at the hill range of Changshang area under Sagolmang Police station and another 15 acres of poppy cultivation at Kongba Maru area also under Sagolmang PS. FIR cases have been taken up at NAB PS.

In the current Poppy destruction drive which started since November 20, Manipur Police has destroyed 1184 acres of illicit poppy cultivation, police said.
