Assam Rifles foils smuggling attempt, recovers goods worth in crores of Rupees

Imphal: ​On January 7 troops of Assam Rifles intercepted a convoy of five DI vehicles and a pickup going towards imphal and found them transporting bulk quantity of shoes and textile products illegally smuggled from Myanmar.

During a thorough search of the vehicles a total of 128 packages containing 51 packages of Ladies garments, 34 packages of Gents Garments, 225 blankets, 180 Bedsheets, 586 pairs of Shoes, 900 coconuts, 100 LED Bulbs and 300 Plastic mats worth Rs 2.39 cr were recovered. Six individuals were detained along with the vehicles, Assam Rifles said in a statement on Monday.

​The recovered items along with the detainees and vehicles have been handed over to customs departments for further investigations, it added.
