No schools, colleges and civil society will take part in Republic Day celebration

Imphal: In the upcoming Republic Day celebration due to Covid-19 pandemic, schools, colleges and civil society/association will not take part in the march past parade however, tableaux of various government departments will be display.

In connection with the Republic Day Celebration, 2021 in the state, full dress rehearsal of the Republic Day parade was held on Saturday at Imphal. Around 27 uniform contingents and one cultural troupe take part in full dress rehearsal.

Governor of Manipur Dr Najma Heptulla will grace the 72nd Republic Day celebrations as chief guest and unfurled the National Flag and take the salute of the march past at historic Kangla, Imphal.

Parade Commander will be Jugeshore Sharma, commandant of 10 IRB while Guard of Honour commander will be Reena Haobam, deputy CO-7 MR.

This year, Parade will starts from 1st MR parade ground and comes to Raj Bhavan Gate through Jail road and moves towards Kangla western gate along the National Highway and Kangla moat. On reaching the LIC building, parade turns right towards the East along National Highway and comes up to North AOC. Parade then turns right again and enters Kangla through the northern gate and comes up to the saluting base at Kangla.

After saluting, the parade moves towards southern gate of Kangla and exit Kangla. The parade then turns right near chief minister’s bungalow and moves towards BSNL office. Parade after reaching BSNL office will turn right and enter 1st MR Parade Ground through the road next to BSNL office and CID office.

Earlier public used to enter Kangla from the western gate. But this year, public may be allowed to enter from the Kangla southern gate and view the parade about 50 metres south of VIP pandal on the western side of the road.

Later, vote of thanks to the participants of March Past will be propose by chief minister N. Biren Singh at 1st Bn. Manipur Rifles Parade Ground, Imphal.
