Imphal: Rain, hailstorm and heavy snowfall were reported in Shirui and surrounding villages in Ukhrul district on Sunday afternoon. It all began with a sudden hailstorm on February 7 afternoon for about half an hour. Villagers believed it was a sign of blessing for bountiful harvest this season.
Various videos of villagers playing in the snow were widely circulated in various social media platforms. In those videos, people were seen playing around in the snow, throwing snow balls and literally skating over the playgrounds covered with snow measuring about 2 ft in depth.
Similar incidents were also reported at Dushen village, another village located about 25 km west of Ukhrul town, Oktan village in Noney district and Mao in Senapati District.
