Narcotics recovered, smuggling foiled

Imphal: Tengnoupal Battalion Assam Rifles under the aegis of IGAR (South) recovered smuggled contraband from Loisi village in Tengnoupal district of Manipur on Tuesday.

Acting of specific intelligence, the Assam Rifles said, the troops launched a search operation near Loisi village in Tengnoupal district. On thorough inspection of the area the team found 51 abandoned packages of textile products illegally smuggled from Myanmar.

On further inspection of the packages, 250 gm of Brown Sugar packed in 20 soap cases was also recovered.

The recovered contraband included 38 packages of garments, four packages of shoes, 63 mannequins and 250 grams of Brown Sugar.

The assessed market value of the recovered narcotics and contraband was worth over Rs 1 crore, the Assam Rifles said.

The recovered narcotics and contraband were handed over to the customs and police department for further investigation, it added.

Chandel Battalion Assam Rifles under the aegis of IGAR (South) foiled contraband smuggling attempt in Chandel on Monday.

Troops of Assam Rifles, acting on specific intelligence, intercepted four vehicles near Chumthar-Thangin village in Chandel district.

On thorough checking of the vehicles, smuggled clothes and footwear were recovered along with five smugglers.

The market value of the recovered goods was assessed to be of worth over Rs 53 Lakh.

The smuggled goods along with smugglers and vehicles were handed over to Chandel Police station for further legal action.
