Imphal: On the occasion of World Cancer Week, an awareness drive on Cancer and Drug Menace was conducted by Shangshak Battalion under the aegis of IGAR (South) at Jalengbung village, Litan in Ukhrul district of Manipur on Wednesday.
The medical officer of Assam Rifles educated the villagers of Jalengbung and nearby areas on the preventions and early detection aspects of various types of cancers. The local population were also made aware of the government health and medical beneficiary schemes.Further continuing with the efforts on curbing down the smuggling of drugs, the troops of Assam Rifles took a step forward in educating the locals on ill effects of drugs with special focus on the youth.
Altogether 45 villagers including Village Health Committee Members and Youth Club Members from nearby villages joined Assam Rifles in the awareness drive.
Keithelmanbi Battalion under the aegis of IGAR (South) organised Medical and Dental camp under at Lilong Village in Thoubal district of Manipur on the same day.
The medical and dental camp was aimed at providing free Covid-19 related medical commodities, primary medical consultation, advance prescription and provision of free medicines. Apart from providing medical attention, basic knowledge on health education, hygiene, sanitation and awareness on Covid-19 was also provided.
Villagers were also provided with free dental checkup and minor ailments were treated. L.Sarita Devi, Arjuna Awardee, president, Sarita Regional Boxing Academy was the chief guest of the said event who enlightened the attendees of healthy life benefits and motivated the youth to seek opportunities in sports and achieve laurels for the state at national and international levels.
The medical camp also provided an opportunity to Assam Rifles to interact with the villagers to ascertain their needs and address their queries regarding various employment opportunities in forces especially Army, Assam Rifles and preparation required for the same.
A total of 150 villagers were benefitted from the camp, the Assam Rifles said.
