Assam Rifles continues to apprehend wood smugglers in Manipur

Imphal: Thoubal Battalion Assam Rifles under the aegis of HQ IGAR (South) recovered ‘illegally’ transported Teak Wood and apprehended two smugglers from Saram village of Thoubal district of Manipur on February 8.

The Assam Rifles in a press statement released on Wednesday said it apprehended two suspected smugglers along with four truck plying with 60 logs of illegally smuggled Teak Wood while acting on a specific intelligence, regarding movement of contraband along Thoubal – Hongi axis. Troops of Assam Rifles established a Vehicle Check Post near Saram village for the conduct.

The apprehendees have been identified as Phundreimayunm Inityas Khan, resident of Yairipok Heitroipokpi, Khoirom and Senam Ranjit Singh, resident of Bishnunah Yairipok.

The seized timber and detained persons were handed over to district forest officer, Kasom Khullen for further legal action, the statement said.
