Assam Rifles recovers Brown Sugar worth Rs 1.29 crore

Imphal: Tengnoupal Battalion of Assam Rifles under the aegis of IGAR (South) recovered Brown Sugar, worth Rs 1.29 crore, from a forest area near Khongkhang in Tengnoupal district of Manipur on Tuesday night.

Troops of Assam Rifles during a search operation intercepted suspicious movement on NH 102. On thorough search of the thick forest area the troops recovered 50 cases of Brown Sugar weighing 649 grams. The assessed market value of the recovered contraband is worth Rs 1.29 crore, the Assam Rifles said.

The recovered contraband items have been handed over to Tengnoupal Police station for further investigation, it added.

On the same day troops of Assam Rifles under the aegis of IGAR (South) recovered narcotics (Opium) from Bualkot area of Churachandpur district.

Troops of Assam Rifles got specific information regarding a hidden cache of contraband in nearby jungle area of Bualkot. On thorough search of the area the troops recovered 22 kg of Opium.

The recovered narcotics were handed over to the Singhat Police station, the Assam Rifles said.
