Imphal: Loumee Shinmee Apun Lup (Lousal) urged the legislatures to take a resolution to fully implement The Conservation of Paddy Land and Wetlands Act, 2014 in the the Manipur Legislative Assembly to protect paddy lands.
Even after the passing of this Act by the then Congress Government in 2014, there is not much visible significance of the Act due to the absence of rules, Lousal general secretary Laishram Kiranjit told reporters here on Wednesday.
He said construction of buildings and structures in the paddy land and sale of paddy fields continue unabated thereby reducing paddy lands in the state.
“If paddy lands are not preserved we will be reduced to the status of beggars,” the farmers body said.
