Centre proposed to open medical colleges at 3 district hospitals, one approved: Biren

Imphal: Proposals for opening of three new medical colleges at Churachandpur District Hospital, Thoubal District Hospital and Chandel District Hospital were submitted to the central government of which approval for up-gradation of Churachandpur District Hospital to Medical College has been granted.

Chief minister informed this development to the House on the eight day of the ongoing 12th session of the 11th Manipur Legislative Assembly on Friday.

“This is the second state owned medical college after Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences. Under the funding pattern of 90:10, a total of Rs 325 crores has been sanctioned by the ministry of health and family welfare,” Biren said.

State government is constantly urging the ministry for up-gradation of Thoubal District Hospital to a new medical college.

Health complicacy and Covid-19

Government is committed to ensure better health care facilities in the state. Providing health care facilities to the people is one of the top priority areas of which the government is committed, the chief minister said in reply to a query and supplementary raised by MLA Surjakumar Okram.

Replying to Surjakumar the chief minister informed the House that as per reports, there is no cases of serious health complications with respect to those who have recovered from Covid-19. He said state government has constituted an expert committee for inspection, supervision and guidance of government and other hospitals. Post-Covid complications Management Committees of RIMS and JNIMS were constituted and dedicated Post-Covid wards will also be opened if required. He also assured the House that the government is fully committed for providing super-specialty services wherever necessary.

Recruitment of Group C and D posts

Biren said new policy for recruitment of Group C and D posts has been implemented from March 28, 2017 as per the norms of central government except for recruitment of state security personnel.

He was replying to a query raised by MLA K. Ranjit Singh. He said as of now new norms for recruitment of Group B post has not been implemented in the state.

Solar power terminals

Under the PMKSY-HKKP (GW), 50 numbers of irrigation tube-wells has been executed, Biren said in reply to a question raised by MLA Th. Lokeshwar Singh. He said altogether 550 numbers of such wells will be executed with an estimated cost of Rs 61.68 crore.

Power supply line to the feasible areas and solar power terminals will also be made available to the wells for their functioning, he added.
Construction of rice research station

Agriculture minister O. Lukhoi Singh informed the House that a total of Rs 2,238.37 lakhs have been sanctioned for the construction of Rice Research Station at Wangbal in Thoubal district under Special Plan Assistance during 2013-14 and 2014-15. He said a total of Rs 248.707 lakh as state matching share is yet to be sanctioned. He said required laboratory equipments, furniture and farm machinery and equipments will be installed as and when the state share is released.
