Journalist bodies serve 48-hour ultimatum for clarification on bomb threat

Imphal: All Manipur Working Journalists’ Union and the Editors Guild Manipur has served a 48-hour ultimatum to the assailant who lobbed a hand grenade at Poknapham (a Manipur daily) office in Imphal to disclose its identity and to clarify on the threat.

The ultimatum, effecting from Monday midnight, has been served after the journalist bodies held a meeting at Manipur Press Club, here, on Monday.

A woman who came on two wheeler tossed a hand grenade at the media house’s office, Keishampat at around 6:30 pm on Saturday. The bomb did not explode.

Media persons ceased their works for two days in protest against the threat to the media house terming it as an attack to journalist fraternity.

The Monday journalist meeting demanded the state home department to book the assailant in 48 hours.

During the 48 hours interval the state journalist fraternity will stage sit-in rally to protest against the threat by the unidentified attacker.

The media bodies also resolved a general body meeting will be held to discuss on the development, after 48 hours.

There has not been no news publication for two days following the incident. Condemning it media fraternity of Manipur staged sit-in rally at Keishampat on Sunday.
