Four smugglers nabbed, Rs 1.63 crore worth contraband seized

​Imphal: Chandel Battalion of Assam Rifles under aegis of IGAR (S) in a joint operation with Manipur Police foiled an attempt to smuggle contraband in Chandel on Monday.

​In the operation, the troops recovered a large quantity of smuggled goods and apprehended four smugglers in the vicinity of Iron Bridge near Khongjol in Chandel.

​Acting on specific information regarding smuggling of goods across the Indo Myanmar border into Chandel, a joint operation with Manipur Police was launched to intercept the vehicles carrying smuggled goods.

​At around 6:30 am the joint team intercepted four vehicles. On thorough checking, smuggled goods worth Rs 1.63 crore were recovered.

The smuggled goods alongwith the smugglers and vehicles were handed over to Chandel Police station for further legal action.

Assam Rifles is playing prominent role for thwarting the increasing smuggling attempts by well coordinated joint operations with the police in Manipur, Assam Rifles said.
