Imphal: In the pursuit of the campaign against drug smuggling in Manipur, troops of Assam Rifles foiled narcotic smuggling in Tuibong area of Churachandpur on Tuesday.
Acting on specific information regarding smuggling of narcotics, a suspected Maruti 800 car was intercepted by troops of Aina Battalion of Assam Rifles. On being flagged down, the car driver tried to escape but was captured after a short chase. On frisking, four soap cases containg heroin weighing 39.26 grams worth Rs 15.7 lakh were recovered, Assam Rifles said.
The recovered heroin along with the trafficker were handed over to Churachandpur Police station for further legal action, it added.
