Walkathon, 2-wheeler rally mark road safety month

Imphal: A walkathon and two-wheelers rally was organised by district administration, Imphal East in co-ordination with the district superintendent of police and transport on the theme “Sadak Suraksha-Jeevan Raksha” from City Convention Centre, Konung Mamang to DC Complex, Porompat on Wednesday.

The rally was organised in connection with the observation of the National Road Safety Month.

The event was flagged off at City Convention Centre, Konung Mamang by deputy commissioner, Imphal East, Khumanthem Diana Devi in presence of SP Jogeshchandra Haobijam and culminated at Panchayat Bhavan, DC Office Complex, Porompat.

Diana highlighted the importance of Road Safety, why it is being organized as a month-long event which was earlier celebrated as a week-long programme.

She appealed to all the members present to abide by the traffic rules, the importance of the use of helmets and seat belts which could save lives as accidents are not pre-informed incidents. She appealed to all particularly youngsters, school and college goers not to be carried away by the thrills of speedy driving. Careful driving is the key to prevention from untoward incidents of road accidents.

Two traffic police personnel — Wahengbam Geetchandra Meetei (constable) and Elangbam Bike Singh (VDF) were awarded Certificate of Commendation and Memento in recognition for their sincerity in traffic duties.

School Children of Ananda Singh Hr. Secondary Academy, CC. Hr. Secondary School, Lamlong Hr. Secondary School, Police Personnel, Employees of Various offices situated in Imphal East and district level officers participated in the event.
