Biren assures compensation, instructs action against defaulting officials over Covid vaccination related death

Imphal: Manipur chief minister N. Biren Singh has assured suitable compensation in connection with the death of a 48 years old Anganwadi worker (female) from Kumbi Terakha, Bishnupur, a week after receiving Covid-19 vaccine.

“Heard the grievances of family of Anganwandi Worker W. Sundari of Kumbi Terakha and expressed my deep condolences. Assured suitable compensation duly considering post mortem reports and instructed for taking strong action against defaulting officials,” Biren said in a post on his Facebook wall.

The chief minister said he had instructed to issue strong instructions to concerned officials for ensuring strict compliance of Covid-19 vaccination guidelines.

Sundari was injected the first dose of Covid-19 vaccine on February 12 at Kumbi PHC.

According to family members, Sundari had no health complaint before she was injected with the vaccine. She complained that she was not feeling well on the evening after she was injected with the first dose. Soon she was taken to Kumbi PHC but there was no doctor. Sundari was then taken to Moirang CHC where her blood pressure was found low.

There she was administered an IV solution and brought home. Rashes could be seen emerging on Sundari’s skin in the night.

Two days later, Sundari was taken to Kumbi PHC and she was sent back with a prescription of anti-allergy pills.

Sundari’s condition grew worse on Friday morning and she  was being taken to a hospital at Imphal. On the way she experienced breathing difficulty. She was rushed to Moirang CHC. She expired at around 7 am the health centre.

This was the first Covid-19 vaccination related death in Manipur.
