2 drug smugglers including a minor apprehended

Imphal: Imphal West Police commando of Manipur police apprehended two smugglers including a minor boy near a bridge at Khumbong Bazaar on Tuesday.

They were travelling from Imphal towards Khumbong in a Tata truck bearing registration number NL05D – 8714.

One of them was identified as Langpoklakpam Amarjit Meitei (driver of the truck), 42, son of late L. Temba Meitei of Keirak Yawabung, Kakching district and the other one is the minor boy.

Amarjit stated that he was hired by the father of the juvenile. He revealed that the father of the boy is the owner of the truck and he was sent by his father to accompany the driver for loading the cement from Silchar, Assam, police said.

The minor boy disclosed that he had kept concealed 20 yellow packets of WY (World is Yours) tablets containing 2 lakh by making a separate compartment on the cross member of the chassis of the vehicle. He disclosed that the suspected WY tablets were handed over to him by one person of Sora Maning Leikai to transport upto Silchar on his truck. He further disclosed that he had earlier transported 1 lakh WY tablets to

Silchar in January under the instruction of a drug dealer from Sora.

From their possessions 20 yellow packets of suspected WY tablets which contains 2 lakh tablets approximately; three mobile phones; two wallets containing one Voter ID, one Aadhaar card and a sum of Rs 750; five iron sheets and screws used in modified cross member; and the truck.

The apprehended persons along with the seizures have been handed over to Patsoi Police station for further necessary legal action. A case is registered and investigation is taken up. Some important persons involved in the cartel are identified and effort is made to arrest them, police said.
